Japan Drone 2025 opened on June 4 in Chiba, marking Taiwan’s first official participation in the exhibition with the establishment of the Taiwan Pavilion by the Taiwan Excellence Drone International Business Opportunity Alliance (TEDIBOA).
During the event, TEDIBOA signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Japan UAS Industrial Development Association (JUIDA), signaling the start of bilateral industrial cooperation and the pursuit of a "non-red supply chain" free from Chinese components.
TEDIBOA Chairman and AIDC Chairman Hu Kai-hung stated that the alliance now includes over 200 companies across core areas such as drone design, manufacturing, flight control, and communications, forming a complete supply chain.
“Our goal is to build a safe and reliable MIT (Made in Taiwan) drone cooperation platform,” Hu emphasized.
Taiwan’s Representative to Japan, Frank Lee, noted that Taiwan’s national drone team has expanded from 50 to over 200 companies in under a year, demonstrating the sector’s rapid growth.
Lee also highlighted that drones have redefined modern warfare, as seen in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and projected the global market could reach USD 50 billion by 2030.
He stressed that Taiwan and Japan are highly complementary in ICT, system integration, and precision manufacturing—mirroring their past success in the semiconductor industry.
The MOU was signed by Hu Kai-hung and JUIDA Vice Chairman Yasuhiro Chida, witnessed by Representative Lee and Ministry of Economic Affairs aerospace official Chien Chih-Wei.
TEDIBOA said the signing marks a key milestone in Taiwan’s effort to enter the global supply chain and tap into Japan’s multi-billion yen drone market.
The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) also participated, showcasing six homegrown drone technologies for logistics and inspection, while engaging with Japanese buyers and firms.
ITRI visited leading Japanese eVTOL and drone firms to promote cross-border collaboration and further JUIDA’s participation in building Taiwan-based non-red supply chains.
ITRI President Liu Wen-hsiung said the Japan Drone show marks Taiwan’s second major international presence this year, following its debut at Europe’s top drone expo in February, underscoring Taiwan’s ambition and innovation capacity.
He added that Taiwan is actively expanding its role in the global drone industry by partnering with international leaders such as Parrot and ACSL.
