AIDC Showcases “Power Island” at Taipei Aerospace & Defense Exhibition

Aerospace Technology Empowering Resilient Energy and National Defense

At TADTE 2025 held in Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Taiwan’s Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC) unveiled two major innovations: the “Power Island” resilient energy solution and the “Counter-UAV System”, highlighting how aerospace technology can serve both civil energy security and national defense.

Power Island: Smart Microgrid for Energy Autonomy

AIDC’s Wind-Solar-Storage Power Island integrates renewable energy, battery storage, and its proprietary EMS, creating a self-sustaining smart microgrid.

  • Supplies 6+ hours of power during outages.
  • Balances grid load via peak-shaving and valley-filling.
  • Applicable for factories, government agencies, military bases, and disaster relief.

The largest pilot site in Taichung is expected to go online in 2026. AIDC has also signed a cooperation project with Malaysia, entering Southeast Asia’s storage market.

Counter-UAV System: Taiwan’s First Laser “Hard-Kill”

The newly revealed Counter-UAV System provides a four-layer defense: detection, identification, targeting, and neutralization.

  • 5 km / 360° detection with radar and EO/IR sensors.
  • Signal jamming to disrupt GPS and communications.
  • Laser hard-kill capability to physically destroy drones.

It is Taiwan’s first indigenous laser-based anti-drone product, with future upgrades including high-power microwave weapons and gun interceptors.

Additional Highlights

  • AIxWARE Smart Manufacturing Platform: Boosts production efficiency and energy savings, already validated by Boeing and Airbus.
  • Advanced Materials and Components: Showcasing thermoplastic composites, vacuum casting, and Boeing 787 wing parts.
  • Distribution Businesses: Including ground power units, air-conditioning vehicles, and cutting tools for aviation and defense industries.

Three Key Takeaways

  1. Dual-use Innovation: Aerospace technology extends into renewable energy, enhancing both civilian and military resilience.
  2. Strengthened Air Defense: Taiwan’s indigenous anti-drone solution marks a milestone in asymmetric defense capabilities.
  3. Global Integration: From Southeast Asia’s energy market to Airbus and Boeing recognition, AIDC cements Taiwan’s role in global supply chains.
