How one Taipei neighborhood is tackling household power waste from the inside out

As summer temperatures continue to rise, the demand for electricity increases, causing energy bills to soar.
However, the true "electricity vampires" consuming power in many households often go unnoticed.

To help residents cut energy costs and advance net-zero living, an energy-saving volunteer squad has been
established in Mingxing Village, Taipei’s Wenshan District. Acting as home energy auditors, these volunteers
proactively visit local households to identify overlooked, energy-draining habits.

In addition to reviewing utility bills with residents, volunteers remind them to clean their air conditioner
filtersregularly. They also encourage simple daily habits, such as turning off idle electronics and unplugging
devices in standby mode, to minimize energy waste.

Mingxing Village has shifted its promotional strategy from passive posters to practical initiatives that deliver
tangible benefits to residents. By demonstrating how small daily changes add up, the volunteers are 
inspiring locals to take an active role in protecting the planet.

炎炎夏日，電費總是直線飆升，但真正的「吃電怪獸」可能就藏在家中！​台北市文山區明興里為了幫助居民省電、省錢，也落實淨零綠生活，成立「節能減碳志工小隊」，化身居家節能健檢師，主動走入家戶檢視用電習慣，找出容易被忽略的耗電問題。

​志工除了協助分析電費帳單，也提醒民眾定期清洗冷氣濾網、保持氣流順暢，並養成隨手關閉電器、拔除待機插頭等節能好習慣，從生活細節降低能源浪費。

明興里將過去較為分散的環保宣導，轉化為更具體、貼近民眾需求的節能行動，不僅幫助居民減輕電費負擔，也讓節能減碳真正落實到每一個家庭。從家戶用電管理到社區環境營造，明興里以實際行動打造低碳生活典範，證明只要從日常小地方做起，每個人都能成為守護地球的一份子。
