Polluted water can turn into recycled water. Taiwan’s first water reuse facility officially opened this year along
the Keelung River in Taipei’s Songshan District. The Minsheng Water Resource Recycling Plant is not only a
facility for treating wastewater, but also an education centre that helps people learn more about how water
can be reused and recycled.

The water reuse facility can treat up to 40,000 tons of household wastewater every day and produce 10,000
tons of recycled water. The recycled water can be provided to government offices, schools, and local residents
for non-drinking purposes, such as watering plants and cleaning. Visitors can also learn more about the
process of water recycling through professional tours, interactive games, and other activities at the education
centre.

The facility was originally built in 1971. After being refurbished, it has taken on a new role—not only as a place
to treat wastewater, but also as an education centre that promotes water conservation and sustainable use of
water.

From wastewater to recycled water, the plant shows how cities can create a more sustainable water cycle and
make every drop of water count.
