Lockheed Martin and the U.S. Navy have completed the first phase of flight testing for the integration of the AGM-158C Long Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM) onto the F-35C Lightning II.
The testing focused on evaluating aircraft handling characteristics, structural loads, and flutter behavior across various flight envelopes while carrying the missile externally.
The successful completion of this phase paves the way for future separation tests and live-fire evaluations, bringing the F-35C closer to acquiring a powerful long-range anti-ship strike capability.

External Carriage Required
Because LRASM is significantly larger than weapons normally carried inside the F-35's internal bays, the missile must be mounted externally under the wings.
While this reduces the aircraft's stealth profile, it enables the F-35C to engage naval targets at much greater distances.
