Amid the ongoing Ukraine conflict and U.S.–China tech rivalry, Taiwan is accelerating efforts to build a resilient, “non-red” drone supply chain—focusing on indigenous innovation and global partnerships.

Supported by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Taiwan’s TEDIBOA alliance—with ITRI as a key technical driver—is expanding global partnerships and attracting foreign UAV firms to localize production.

ITRI has facilitated the entry of France’s Parrot (the world’s No. 2 drone maker) and Japan’s ACSL into Taiwan, forming bilateral MoUs with Japan Drone Consortium (JDC) to co-develop a regional “non-red” supply ecosystem.

ITRI President Edwin Liu personally visited France to secure deeper cooperation with Parrot—building a full-chain supply system in Taiwan covering airframe, motors, batteries, and PCBs for next-gen drone development.

Drone Industry Insights forecasts the global integrated drone market will reach $50 billion by 2030, with a 6.2% CAGR. Taiwan’s strength in semiconductors, ICT, and precision components gives it a strategic edge.

Taiwanese firms are also showcasing at leading expos like Germany’s Euro Drone Show and Japan Drone, matching with global buyers and exploring tech licensing and joint ventures.

TEDIBOA Chairwoman Sophia Wu noted that in just six months, Taiwan has achieved more international progress than in the past decade—fostering direct dialogue with global drone leaders.

Looking ahead, Taiwan’s participation in the June Japan Drone expo will drive deeper collaboration in logistics and infrastructure inspections through joint R&D and licensing talks with top-tier Japanese firms.
