Turkey has marked another milestone in unmanned combat aviation. According to Army Recognition, Baykar recently conducted a test over the Black Sea in which an AKINCI unmanned combat aerial vehicle launched an EREN loitering munition and successfully destroyed an aerial drone target, setting the first recorded instance of an air-to-air interception using a loitering munition.

Footage released by Baykar shows the AKINCI carrying two EREN munitions under its wings. During the test, one munition was launched and successfully intercepted a drone target resembling Iran’s Shahed-type UAV. The trial validated both system integration and the expansion of loitering munition applications from ground-attack roles to air-to-air missions.

The AKINCI is a large, long-endurance unmanned combat aerial vehicle developed by Baykar, capable of carrying up to 1.5 tons of payload and remaining airborne for 24 hours. It is equipped with radar and electro-optical sensors, enabling extended surveillance and strike missions.
EREN則由土耳其洛克坦(Roketsan)公司研發,彈體長約2公尺、重量約35公斤,採用噴射發動機推進,最大射程可達100公里,或可於特定區域滯空約15分鐘,並配備尋標器與目標辨識能力,強化精準打擊效能。
The EREN munition, developed by Roketsan, measures approximately 2 meters in length and weighs about 35 kilograms. Powered by a jet engine, it offers a maximum range of 100 kilometers or up to 15 minutes of loiter time within a designated area, and features onboard seekers and target recognition capability for precision engagement.
構築「反無人機傘」 戰術應用潛力擴大

此次測試成果顯示,AKINCI可搭載EREN形成大範圍「反無人機傘」,在空域內主動獵殺來襲無人目標,提升空域防護彈性。
The successful test suggests that AKINCI equipped with EREN could function as a wide-area counter-drone umbrella, proactively hunting hostile UAVs and enhancing aerial defense flexibility.
同時,EREN的發射平台已由傳統固定翼或地面發射擴展至無人機載具,使其作戰角色從對地打擊延伸至空對空與反無人機攔截任務,為未來多用途無人武器發展提供新方向。
