At the 2025 Paris Air Show, Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) announced that its domestically developed KF-21 "Boramae" fighter has completed more than 150 test flights and is on track to enter mass production in 2026 — a significant milestone for South Korea’s maturing defense aerospace capabilities.
The KF-21 integrates stealth shaping and an open architecture design to meet the demands of modern air combat. Future variants will include a twin-seat trainer/command version and a carrier-capable model to support both the Republic of Korea Navy and potential overseas operators.
KAI revealed that it has received letters of intent (LOIs) from Malaysia, Indonesia, and the United Arab Emirates, indicating tangible export potential in both Asia and the Middle East.
In addition to the KF-21, KAI showcased its loyal wingman unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) program, known as KUS-FS. This system is designed to operate alongside manned aircraft like the KF-21, performing roles in electronic warfare, ISR (intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance), and high-risk penetration missions.
KAI emphasized that its focus on technological sovereignty and modular design will ensure competitiveness in the era of manned-unmanned teaming (MUM-T), while opening doors for joint development and co-production with international partners.
Company executives stated that over the next decade, KAI will continue expanding its aerial platform portfolio — from advanced trainers and unmanned tactical systems to multi-role helicopters — positioning itself as a leading integrated aerospace defense provider in the Asia-Pacific.
