US Army Plans to Enhance Integration of Warfighting Experimentation in FY26

The U.S. Army is planning to redesign its warfighting experimentation methods in Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26), shifting from isolated events focused on individual warfighting functions to more integrated, concept-driven designs. This transformation aims to consolidate various operational functions to enhance future combat capabilities. Lt. Gen. David Hodne, director of the Army's Futures and Concepts Center, stated at the Global Force Symposium in Huntsville, Alabama, that these experiments will encompass areas such as command and control, cross-domain fires, and expanded maneuver, with a major "Project Convergence" event scheduled for the summer of 2026.

Lt. Gen. Hodne indicated that the Army will first conduct its annual Title 10 war game in November 2025, followed by a command and control experiment in early spring 2026 to test the full range of command and control capabilities from the theater to brigade level. Subsequently, the Army will conduct a cross-domain fires experiment at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, involving various fires, launched effects, rockets, and cannons in both live and simulated environments.Finally, an expanded maneuver experiment will take place at Fort Benning, Georgia, focusing on launched effects, autonomous systems, human-machine integrated formations, and layered protection systems from higher echelons to the brigade and below.

Additionally, the Army plans to conduct two Future Studies Programs to incorporate the learning from the three concept-focused experiments, culminating in the capstone Project Convergence event in the summer of 2026. This new experimental design will provide clearer directions for industry partners and enhance focus and efficiency by consolidating calls for proposals.
