The National Chung-Shan Institute of Science & Technology (NCSIST) has announced the commercial transfer of its indigenously developed tube-launched drone technologies, aiming to accelerate the localization of Taiwan’s UAV industry.
Key technologies now available for transfer include modular launch tubes, foldable wings, composite airframes, and full system integration—each developed to military-grade standards.
This initiative aligns with Taiwan’s “Five Trustworthy Industries” strategy, seeking not only to license technologies but also to empower private-sector players to enter critical UAV supply chains and expand their global competitiveness.
By transferring these technologies, NCSIST expects to shorten private R&D cycles, increase domestic production rates, and establish a robust “non-red” supply chain that supports both military and commercial applications.
This move marks a key step in Taiwan’s push for UAV autonomy. NCSIST also plans to establish a full-spectrum development platform—spanning R&D, prototyping, testing, and mass production—while fostering inter-sectoral collaboration.
NCSIST concluded that UAVs could become Taiwan’s next strategic industry after semiconductors, with both defense and export applications expected to fuel dual-track growth in national security and economic strength.
