Silicon Valley-based startup SiFly has unveiled its first-generation drones, the compact Q12 and the larger Q250, claiming to break through conventional performance barriers.
According to SiFly, the Q12 can hover for up to two hours and fly straight for three, outperforming mainstream models by four times. It also carries up to 4.5 kg—double the payload of typical quadcopters.
The drone is operated via 5G connectivity, offering a maximum range of 145 km—far beyond the industry average of 10–15 km. Its silent propulsion system renders it nearly inaudible from 100 meters away.
The Q250, SiFly’s heavy-duty model, can carry up to 90.7 kg and sustain 100 minutes of flight under full load. It’s expected in 2026, aimed at military, remote monitoring, crop spraying, and cargo delivery tasks.
While SiFly hasn’t disclosed specifics about how it overcame technological limits in power and materials, ex-NASA engineer and Whisper Aero CEO Mark Moore endorsed the firm’s silent propulsion claims.
One open question is how SiFly can match the cost of Chinese-made drones like DJI’s while manufacturing entirely in the U.S.—possibly using 3D printing, though this remains unconfirmed.
