Lockheed Upgrades F-35 Fighter Jet with Sixth-Generation Technology

In response to Boeing’s victory in the U.S. Air Force’s Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program, Lockheed Martin announced a significant upgrade to its F-35 fighter jet. The goal is to achieve 80% of the F-47’s capabilities at half the cost, transforming the F-35 into a “fifth-generation plus” fighter. 

The upgrade includes the Technology Refresh 3 (TR-3) hardware and software updates, enhancing the F-35’s processing power and memory, laying the groundwork for the upcoming Block 4 modernization. 

Additionally, the F-35 will be equipped with the new AN/APG-85 radar system, improving target detection and tracking capabilities, and increasing the internal weapons bay’s missile capacity.
