Update: Civil groups & activists occupy Executive Yuan(gov by KMT) to protest the Cabinet of being cold-blooded conditional support to Kaohsiung City(gov by DPP) during reconstruction efforts.

-Fake Red Cross Foundations found in Taiwan, while donations from companies and individuals around Taiwan are pouring in to help with post-disaster relief.

-Casualties increase to 312, 32 killed. 12,000 people in shelters after deadly Kaohsiung explosions.

-Kaohsiung mayor: Recovery will take at least 3.5 months. The city needs at least NT$1.9billion to rebuild its damaged parts.

-LCY Chemical(李長榮化工) apologized over Kaohsiung blasts. Many suspected Chemical Corps have pipelines under the city, incl. CPC Taiwan(台灣中油), China Petrochemical Development(中石化), China General Terminal and Distribution(華運) & Hsin Kao Gas(欣高) were called in by the city gov’s emergency response center amid the inquiry into the cause of the fatal blasts.

-Kaohsiung calls for avoidance of blast sites, EPA detects 10 ppm propene at explosion site.

-Gas leaks in the sewage system of Kaohsiung led to multiple explosions on 8:30pm Aug 1. The blasts tore through the city’s roads and dug a 100m trench up to 1.8m deep. At least 1.5km of roadways were damaged. Cars and fire trucks were trapped and overturned in the rubble. Vehicles were hurled through the air, landing on the roofs of houses. Flames erupted from manholes after their covers were blasted off, with gouts of fire reaching 15 stories high.
