U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David Allvin emphasized a strategic shift in the acquisition approach for the F-47 sixth-generation fighter jet. Unlike the F-35 program, the Air Force now holds greater control over the F-47’s technology development, enabling quicker and more flexible upgrades.

By establishing a Government Reference Architecture (GRA), the Air Force owns the mission systems and can implement software upgrades independently, reducing reliance on contractors.

This approach addresses past challenges faced during the F-35 program, where the lack of maintenance data rights led to repair delays and increased costs.
