Five Suppliers Selected to Streamline Allied Procurement

The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) has established framework agreements with five suppliers of deployable counter-drone systems, enabling NATO allies and partner nations to rapidly procure proven Counter-UAS capabilities through pre-approved contracting mechanisms as drone threats continue to grow.

Modular Architecture Integrates Sensors and Electronic Warfare

The selected suppliers—Axon, BSS, DefSecIntel, JISR, and CS Group France—will deliver solutions built around a common command-and-control (C2) architecture. The modular design integrates surveillance sensors, electronic warfare effectors, and optional hard-kill interceptors, providing a flexible and scalable counter-drone capability.

Unified C2 System Enhances Protection Across Multiple Operational Environments

According to NATO, the unified C2 architecture enables operators to detect, identify, and respond to drone threats across a wide range of operational environments, including fixed installations, forward operating bases, and mobile deployments, while improving interoperability and operational efficiency across allied forces.

Multi-Supplier Strategy Improves Supply Resilience

NSPA noted that the multi-supplier framework is designed to accelerate procurement, strengthen supply chain resilience, and facilitate shared through-life support among contractors. As operational requirements evolve, additional systems will be added to the framework to ensure allied forces have continued access to proven counter-drone technologies.

NATO Plans $40 Billion Investment in Counter-Drone Capabilities

The framework agreements form part of NATO's broader counter-drone strategy. In July, the alliance announced plans to establish a dedicated Counter-Drone Marketplace for NATO-tested and interoperable systems while committing more than $40 billion over the next five years to strengthen Counter-UAS capabilities. NATO will also expand its Multinational Flight Training Europe (NFTE) initiative to include drone operator training, allowing participating nations to share training infrastructure, expertise, and operational knowledge across the alliance.
