Saying Farewell to Mrs Zhu

Following on from the controversial expropriation of land in DapuVillage, Miaoli County, on the 8th of August people said their final goodbye to the departed Mrs Zhu.  Her spirit has motivated many more concerned people and activists to get involved.  On the day, several members of the Self-help Association came to pay their respects and tell the cruel and heartless county government: ethics and price are two different things. The NGO’s and volunteer groups involved, which included many teachers, lawyers and doctors, have continually boosted each other’s morale.  This added to the enthusiastic fervor of the youth and their ability to disseminate information has allowed the full power and potential of non- governmental groups to flourish.  However, local residents finding their own power to stand up has been even more fundamental to the situation, and it is hoped that the Dapu incident will become a model case allowing the government to face up to the implications of land expropriation plans in the future.

苗栗大埔徵地爭議後續。8月21日，是朱阿?的告別式，她的精神激勵了更多關心者與行動者，當天有十個自救會從各地集結而來，要告訴粗暴的政府：價值與價格是兩回事！民間團體與志工互相打氣，不斷有老師、律師與醫師加入，加上網路青年的熱情與串連，再再突顯民間社會力的潛力。不過，在地公民的自我培力更是重要，希望大埔事件可以成為一個典範，讓政府正視土地徵收背後的政策問題。
