Cross-Strait Service Trade Agreement related reports (2014.3.3.17-3.21)

In opposition to the ruling party’s passing of the Cross-Strait Service Trade Agreement, at around 9 o’clock on the evening of March 18, students and protest groups from all sections of the community succeeded in occupying the legislative floor of the Legislative Yuan. Protestors demanded a review of all articles in the trade agreement and wanted a guarantee that there would be no secret “black box” pushing through of the agreement.

Overnight, a crowd in excess of 10,000 gathered for a sit-in protest on the vacant land in front of the Legislative Yuan on Qingdao East Road. Service trade agreement protesters made three demands: President Ma Ying-jeou apologizes, Premier Jiang Yi Hua steps down, and Legislative Yuan President Wang Jin-pyng withdraws the police. Protesters at the scene retained an "if the police do not move, we do not move" position, a stance echoed in those occupying the legislative floor who vowed not to move until government officials gave a response and found a resolution.
