Dear professor:

I am truly grateful to once again receive your affirmation and recognition of my dedication and efforts. I still remember how, on March 9, you kindly picked up a cloth to help me clean the venue and comforted me — it moved me deeply.

On October 29, I finally received the “letter of apology.” It was the content I had written during the court mediation on September 24, then professor approved it at that time. I have done at my best. I believe that “the God of Rice” will bless all so that a good beginning will lead to a good outcome.

You may share the translated content with the Japanese students and tell them that Taiwan’s Lin, Ju-Chen has received many blessings from Japan — such as learning to enjoy brown rice meals with side dishes, drinking roasted brown rice tea, cultivating rice through natural farming methods like using brushes to remove weeds in paddy fields, and admiring Mr. Yoichi Hatta’s (はったよいち、烏山頭水庫之父八田與一)devotion to the welfare of the people. All these are things I have learned from Japan. I hope young Japanese stduents will treasure Japan’s culture and wisdom wholeheartedly, just as I do, and put them into practice in daily life while sharing them widely with others.

On October 29, as I was promoting rice culture, I stood in the Guandu rice fields gazing toward Yangmingshan — the birthplace of Taiwan’s Penglai rice. It had just rained, and a beautiful rainbow appeared on the horizon. Next year marks the 100th anniversary of Taiwan’s Penglai rice. I sincerely look forward to your visit to Taiwan again — you are always most welcome to contact me.

My connection with Japan is truly miraculous. Many years ago, I watched Director Hayao Miyazaki’s Howl’s Moving Castle. The castle, once a massive mechanical structure, was transformed by Sophie’s tender yet resilient heart into a castle filled with trees and nature. I was deeply touched by that image, and it often comes to my mind before I sleep. Like Sophie, I wish to create a castle that lives in harmony with nature — a dream I have long held. So when I saw that you decided studying group theme this year is “How to Solve Problems That Technology Cannot Solve,” I thought it was absolutely wonderful. Although I am no longer working with professor Li, inspired by Director Miyazaki and encouraged by your recognition, I continue striving to expand the impact of this theme — “How to Solve Problems That Technology Cannot Solve” — and to help create a happier future.
