Rotaract Club of Taipei Sunrise (District 3522) ,along with Rotary Club of Taipei Sunrise, traveled to the Philippines to hold an international cultural exchange fellowship with its sister club, Rotaract Club of Makati United (District 3830) and the District 3830.
During the Tomb Sweeping Festival holiday, Rotaract Club of Taipei Sunrise , led by President Elvis, co-hosted the international fellowship with District 3830 to introduce sky lantern culture and local cuisine to the Filipino Rotaract clubs. This event was co-organized and held by 6 Rotaract clubs, including Changebringer, Kalilayan Makati Ayala Triangle, Makati, Makati United, Parola and Taipei Sunrise club, and participating clubs totaled 12 Rotaract clubs. This fostered a strong friendship and achieved the goal of cross-cultural integration.
The event was opened by host Maica in a lively and engaging manner. Besides introducing the distinguished guests from District 3522 and District 3830, the Taiwanese and Filipino flags were displayed, highlighting the importance on this international meeting. The opening ceremony began with rhythmic movements in English, Mandarin, and Tagalog, encouraging gentle Taiwanese and enthusiastic Filipinos to get to know each other and jointly uphold the mission of the Rotaract Development Foundation: "Implementing Superior Service" and "Enhancing Friendship and International Perspective."
Subsequently, Elvis, president of the Taipei Sunrise Rotaract Club, introduced the cultures of tradition lanterns and sky lanterns. For the traditional lantern, Elvis illustrated about the history and progress of traditional lanterns and mentioned specific meanings for lanterns in recent times. As for the sky lanterns, Elvis said that in Taiwan, many people often release sky lanterns in Pingxi and release them in groups, symbolizing writing blessings and prayer for wishes to come true. The president Elvis then invited participants to create their own unique sky lanterns. Elvis led everyone in creating lantern decorations, writing their wishes, and using colors to beautify their lanterns. Participants also used colors to display different meanings: red for health and peace, yellow for wealth and success, pink for love and happiness, and white for wisdom. This lantern-making process encouraged everyone to brainstorm and utilize their creativities to create their most distinct works.
Host Maica and President Elvis each interviewed Filipino members, who discovered various unique patterns such as Pokémon, ball symbols, English proverbs, Chinese characters, flowers, and lightning bolts. The first phrase, "Everyone pay attention," elicited laughter, and the following wishes from Filipino Rotaractors subtly expressed their wishes for wealth, family health, and lasting friendships, all looking forward to a brighter future.
As the event moved into its second half, Jover, President of the Rotaract Club of Makati, introduced a variety of traditional Filipino dishes through the lens of "Boodle Fight", a unique local dining culture. The menu featured iconic delicacies such as sisig, adobo, and daho. Complementing the feast, PP William from the Rotaract Club of Taipei Sunrise specially brought boba all the way from Taiwan, creating the world-renowned Taiwanese bubble milk tea on-site. This culinary exchange served as a delicious bridge between the two nations. Throughout the session, Rotaractors from the two countries and three districts shared insights into their respective cultures and Rotaract knowledge, driving a deeper mutual understanding.
To conclude the meeting, District 3830 DRR Nico Dela Cruz invited everyone to get on their feet for a fun "Shake Shake" video recording challenge, filling the room with joy and energy. Finally, Taipei Sunrise Rotaract club president Elvis and past president William, along with DRR Nico and Makati United Rotaract club president Kyle, shared their reflections on this cultural exchange fellowship. The event ended on a perfect note with the exchange of souvenirs and handwritten boards, symbolizing a successful and meaningful collaboration.
