The report states that Airbus conducted the test at a site in northern Germany, where the Bird of Prey drone autonomously searched for and tracked a target simulating an Iranian Shahed loitering munition. It then launched a Mark I interceptor developed by Estonia-based Frankenburg Technologies, successfully destroying the target and validating a new autonomous interception concept.

Airbus noted that the Bird of Prey is based on a modified Do-DT25 target drone, capable of speeds up to 555 km/h and a maximum takeoff weight of 160 kg. The Mark I interceptor measures about 65 cm in length, weighs under 2 kg, has a range of approximately 1.5 km, and features fire-and-forget capability. The current test version can carry four interceptors, with future operational variants expected to carry up to eight, indicating strong combat potential.

Frankenburg Technologies claims the Mark I is among the lightest guided interceptors in the world, utilizing a large number of commercial off-the-shelf components to reduce operational costs to roughly one-twentieth of conventional short-range systems. The integration with the Bird of Prey was completed in just nine months, setting a new speed record for such developments.
