From Taiwan’s academic media circle, 46 media departments and 131 people have signed a petition demanding that the government immediately stop using taxpayers money to fund their product placement policy. At a press conference, Lin Yuan-hui, dean of the media department at National Chengchi University raised two examples, the Taiwan mainland committee, that have an advertising budget of 180million NTD, and Taipei City Government, who from September to November spent 130million NTD on the Taipei International Flora Exposition.
In spite of the demands of the public and without consulting any outside bodies before making decisions, the government has continued to use product placement, a decision with knock-on effects throughout the media world and the whole process of newsgathering, from front line reporters all the way to editors. This has raised a wave of anxiety in academic media circles and given rise to a number of demands – ‘immediately stop using product placement’, ‘self-regulate the media’, ‘Executive yuan and Legislative yuan step in and resolve this media crisis – give comprehensive plans to reform the media environment and policy’.

台灣傳播學界共有46個校系所及131人連署對政府喊話，希望政府立即停止用人民的納稅錢做媒體置入行銷政策。政大新聞系系主任林元輝在記者會上提到，以陸委會為例，在宣傳的預算就花了1億8千萬，而北市政府今年花博的宣傳，光是9月到11月就花了1.3億元宣傳。政府不顧閱聽眾需求，逕自單項宣傳、置入新聞，直接影響前線記者與編輯產出新聞的程序，對此傳播學界感到憂心，也提出幾項呼籲，包括「立即停止媒體置入行銷」、「媒體力求自律」，與「行政院與立法院應即刻籌畫新聞產業生態的改革政策與具體措施，從根本解決新聞產業危機」等。
