Drones are no longer just silent observers in the sky—they're now the ones pulling the trigger. From Ukraine to Gaza, unmanned aerial vehicles have redefined warfare, combining surveillance with surgical strikes in real-time.
To keep up with the accelerating pace of drone warfare, Denmark is investing 725 million Danish kroner (about NT$3.6 billion) to create one of Europe’s largest military UAV test facilities in Odense.
It’s not just about hardware—this center aims to train up to 100 military personnel in advanced drone tactics and operations by 2026.
“While drones are widely used in civilian sectors, we’re now seeing a surge in defense-focused applications,” said Lars Larsen, head of the UAV test center project.
According to Denmark’s Royal Defence College, drones accounted for 70% of losses in the Ukraine war—highlighting their impact and Denmark’s motivation to stay ahead.
While military experts welcome the move, they also caution that key drone components often come from the US or China. Europe, they argue, must pursue greater technological independence.
