Exemplifying “One is never too old to learn”

Community colleges are places where adults can smash through educational and age restrictions. With the aim of making a video of his friends at a residential care home,  90-year-old Chen Lian-Gui (陳聯貴) enrolled in three classes on the “Introductory Internet News Editing Course” at Wenshan Community College (文山社區大學).

Chen Lian-Gui’s earnestness, sincerity and focus during classes deeply touched his classmates: he expressed what he wanted with clarity; he had modesty and sincerity when asking the teacher questions; and he was extremely self-motivated in his commitment to finish the job. Last week he shared a touching short eight-minute video compilation of the experiences and reflections of all those participating in the course, earning the warm respect of all his classmates.

社區大學是一個打破年齡和學歷限制的成人學習殿堂。在文山社區大學「網路新聞影像編輯入門」課程上，九十歲的學員陳聯貴爺爺說，這學期他在社大報了三門課，他想學好影像編輯，幫安養院的朋友做影片。他的誠懇和認真，讓同學心中滿是感動，他每堂課都很認真、專注聽課；對於自己要什麼，表達的很清楚；和老師請教問題，謙虛有禮；對於他承諾要完成的作業，他用行動力去達成。上週，他將大家分享參加這堂課程目的或心得的影音片段，串連成一段約八分鐘的影片，大家看了，既是感動又是佩服。
